Alexandra Rose Raisman Bio

Alexandra Rose Raisman (born May 25 24th, 1994) is a retired American artistic gymnast and two-time Olympian. She was the captain of both the 2012 "Fierce Five" and the 2016 "Final Five" U.S. women's Olympic gymnastics teams. Both have won individual teams competitions.At the 2012 Olympics in London she was awarded gold medals in floor and team competitions along with the bronze medal on the balance beam, making her the most decorated American gymnast to compete at the Games. She received an Olympic gold medal for team competition at the 2016 Olympics. Gabby Douglas who was on her team also was awarded gold. Raisman also took silver medals in the individual all around and floor exercise. Raisman received silver medals for the individual all-around as well as the floor exercise. She is also a two-time national champion on floor exercise (2012 and 2015) she was the 2012 champion of the national team on the balance beam, as well as a five-time medalist in the all-around event at the national championships (silver in 2016, bronze in 2011 and 2012, and in 2015). In 2013 she was inducted into the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame. Raisman was born on 25 May 1994 in Needham, Massachusetts to Lynn Faber (nee Faber), who was a former high school gymnast as was Rick Raisman. She is the mother of three younger siblings, Madison, Chloe and Brett. Raisman is Jewish and has said, "I take a lot of satisfaction from being able to not only represent the U.S.A, but also the Jewish community throughout the world. Raisman started gymnastics when she was 18 months old. She attributes her initial enthusiasm for gymnastics to the "Magnificent Seven", the gold medalists of the U.S. women's team at the 1996 Summer Olympics that she watched on VHS.She trained at Exxcel Gymnastics and Climbing through Level 8, when she moved to Brestyan's American Gymnastics Club under coaches Mihai and Silvia Brestyan. Raisman completed her studies at Needham High School, 2012 after completing her senior year through online classes and training for the Olympics.
